This policy sets out the rules that govern your use of qbwfileunlock.com. By uploading a file, paying for a service, or otherwise using the site, you agree to these rules.
The .qbw file format is a database file used by Intuit QuickBooks Desktop. The data inside the file is owned by the legal owner of the business whose data it contains, as acknowledged in Intuit's own End User Licence Agreement.
You may use qbwfileunlock.com only if you are:
You must not use the service to obtain access to a file that you do not have the legal right to access. In particular, you must not:
Our password-removal service exists to help the lawful owner of a .qbw file recover access to a file they already own but have lost the password to. The feature is not designed to enable unauthorised access to a file. By using the password-removal service, you confirm that you are the lawful owner of the file, or are acting on the lawful owner's written authority.
This service fills a real and acknowledged gap. Intuit's own built-in repair tools do not always work. Intuit's support documentation states: “If your company file can't be fixed by rebuilding the data or using the File Doctor, contact support and we'll help you repair the file.” When the built-in tools fail, customers are left with a file they own but cannot open. Several established third-party services — including Stellar Repair, Fourlane, MDrepairs, qbutilities, and Dancing Numbers — exist to fill this gap. We are one of those services. Our role is complementary to Intuit's, not adversarial. For the full legal analysis, see Why this is legal: what gives you the right to your own data.
You must not use the service:
The .qbw files we process commonly contain personal data, including names, addresses, and contact details of customers, employees, and suppliers of the file's owner. By uploading a file, you confirm that the data subjects whose personal data is in the file have been informed of the processing (where required by the UK GDPR) or that a lawful basis for processing without notification applies.
We may decline to process a file, suspend an account, or refund a payment (at our discretion) where:
Where we decline service for one of these reasons, we will refund any payment made for the unprocessed order.
If you believe a file is being processed through this service unlawfully, or that the service is being used to obtain unauthorised access to a .qbw file, please report it to [email protected]. We will investigate and take action as appropriate.
Prefer a pre-written form? Use our contact page.
Before we will accept a file, you must complete a short ownership declaration on the upload form. The declaration has two parts:
Submitting a false declaration is fraud under section 2 of the Fraud Act 2006, and may also be an offence under the Computer Misuse Act 1990 if you use the service to obtain unauthorised access to a file. The declaration you make, together with the date and time, is recorded in our order system. We may be required to disclose this record to law enforcement, regulators, or to a court.
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above.
